Às 15:40 hora local em Norfolk Island, Jim Smith, VK9NS deixou a vida e entrou para a história do radioamadorismo mundial. Ele deixou esposa Kirsti (VK9NL) e 4 filhos.
A contribuição de Jim ao radioamadorismo, Dxismo e IOTA é inextimável. Provavelmente todo “Old Timer” tem uma grande história, cheia de inspiração, para contar sobre Jim.
Kirsti ajudou Jim Smith a escreer sua própria história que ficou registrada no livro: ‘The Old Timer’ – 60 Years in the hobby of Amateur Radio.
Segundo Jim Smith:{xtypo_quote}My book is finally written and it is the story of my travel through life and my becoming involved in the hobby of Amateur Radio. I mention being dragged ‘kicking and screaming’ into the hobby but once there felt at home. I have participated in the hobby in many ways over the many years. So within the almost 600 pages of my book you will see that I have ‘been there and done that’ in no uncertain manner. I have been lucky (if that is the right word) to have travelled extensively and often the travel has been related to Amateur Radio in the sense of DXpeditions.
